Amazon plans to invest $12bn to build new data centers in northwest Louisiana, as part of its broader push to expand infrastructure supporting artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing demand. The project is expected to create 540 full-time jobs, alongside additional roles supporting construction and operations, including electricians and HVAC technicians. Amazon said it will cover 100% of the costs and is working with Southwestern Electric Power Company on required electrical infrastructure. The investment comes as Amazon significantly ramps up capital expenditure, projecting $200bn in spending this year, up from $131bn in 2025. Technology companies have collectively committed at least $630bn to AI-related infrastructure in 2026, fuelling investor concerns about a potential bubble.
