The accounting profession is grappling with a retiring workforce and insufficient new entrants, prompting discussions about overhauling state licensing rules and increasing salaries to attract talent. Despite efforts to address these challenges, experts foresee ongoing difficulties in maintaining robust financial controls, potentially affecting confidence in financial statements and further destabilizing CFO positions.
